SV Serve-1080x1080

Here are just a few ways you can serve the Body of Christ at Severns Valley. We encourage you to step out and begin serving as Christ did for you.

Church Office info@svbc.cc
We have a need for volunteers throughout the week to help with printing, cutting, stuffing, organizing, updating signage, and posting attendance.

By serving in The Café you are helping us to continue to reach the communities of El Platanal and San Francisco in Nicaragua. The EOTE coffee that we serve each Sunday helps support Willow Springs Boys Ranch in Oklahoma. This ranch extends the love of Jesus to boys in need of assistance, at-risk or in a family crisis. Someone who desires to serve on this team as a Celebration Place childcare helper will need to pass the appropriate background checks and interviews with the leaders in this ministry.

Child Care betsy@svbc.cc
We have a growing need for volunteer and paid child care positions throughout the week. These are wonderful ways to minister to children and parents as they grow in the Lord. Contact Betsy Garrison to learn more.

Home Groups jeff@svbc.cc
Home Groups are a great way to get involved within a community of believers. You will be loved, encouraged and challenged. They meet during the week in homes of SV members across Hardin County. A typical meeting consists of snacks, fellowship, Bible-driven discussion and prayer.

  • Home Group Host– Open up your home to 8-15 adults and depending on life stage, this may or may not include an area for childcare. Some hosts provide food weekly and other groups share this responsibility. A Home Group Host needs to enjoy being hospitable.
  • Home Group Leader – Commit to leading the group discussion weekly (or bi-weekly with another leader). Questions or material are provided for leaders each week. Leaders are not asked to teach, but instead to facilitate a discussion to involve everyone who desires to participate in the group discussion.
  • Home Group Coach – Coaches are needed to care for and minister to our Home Group Leaders. Our leaders are ministering to their group week in and week out. Coaches are put in place to pray for, encourage, and support our Home Group Leaders.

On-Campus Groups joe@svbc.cc
Our on campus groups are called Small Groups. Deep relationships with other believers are developed as you study God’s Word together. The teaching of God’s word is at the center of each group, each time we meet. Small groups emphasize caring for and being family to one another.

  • Small Group Leaders – At Severns Valley we are blessed to have a regular flow of guests visiting our services and families joining our church. This means there is the opportunity for new groups to form that will connect with these guests and new families. There is especially a need for groups to start up that target couples in their 20’s-30’s. The immediate need is for new leaders to rise up who are willing to start up and lead these groups. We will teach and train those willing to become a new leader.

SV Students garrett@svbc.cc
SV Students seeks to equip teenagers to Love God, Love People, and Make Disciples. Our worship services, small groups on and off campus, and awesome events throughout the year lead students to encounter God and to go into the world telling everyone about His grace.

SundayMorning – Small Groups

  • Small Group Leader - You will facilitate a discussion and also hang out with the students outside of Sunday morning.
  • First Impressions Coordinator - You are the first face that new students will see as you give them a tour of the Student Ministry.
  • A/V Media - You will run the soundboard and the PowerPoint screen from 8:45-9:30 am.

Sunday Night – THE HOUSE

  • Small Group Leader - You will intentionally connect with students and then lead a discussion based upon the current DVD series.
  • Snacks - You will prepare a tasty dish that will be enjoyed by either middle school or high school students.
  • Host - Our gathering is called THE HOUSE and we are looking for someone who loves students and wants to open up their home for students to read the Bible and connect with other students.

WednesdayNight – SV Connect

  • Leaders - You would seek to meet new students and develop mentoring relationships with regular attending students. You will also help oversee the gathering and keep the students "in line."
  • Café Cashier - You would stand behind the Cafe from 5:00 - 6:00 pm for food purchases. You must love being around teenagers. You would be able to attend the CORE class.
  • A/V Media - You would run the soundboard and pro-presenter during the worship service.

Paid Child Care Workers csimon@svbc.cc

Media Ministry mpoole@svbc.cc
Media Ministry is another extension of our church into our region and beyond. Through radio, television and the Internet there are people who are ministered to on a weekly basis that would have never heard the gospel otherwise. There are a variety of skills and abilities that can be used in this ministry. We offer training in the different areas of media that can allow you to contribute in an effective way:

  • Camera
  • Graphics
  • Lighting
  • Audio
  • Stage Hands/Stage Design Help

Missions: Far jeff@svbc.cc
El Platanal & San Francisco, Nicaragua - Our plan for international missions is to invest in two communities, El Platanal and San Francisco in Nicaragua. We work alongside the pastors and church members to help people: love God, love people, and make disciples. At this time we are taking short-term mission trips at least two times per year. Trips are primarily to share the Gospel with those whom we meet. We do this through many different methods: building relationships, agriculture, medical, pastor training, water wells, health education, sports, and evangelistic events.

Opportunities:

  • Go on a trip
  • Provide funds for someone to go on a trip
  • Pray for those going on a trip
  • Preparation:
  • Collect/sort needed items
  • Help pack
  • Drive participants to the airport and back

Senior Adults ray@svbc.cc

  • Nursing Home and Home-Bound Members Visitation - This is a great ministry to touch the lives of the senior adult members of Severns Valley who are not able to come to church because of health or age-related issues. You will be able to bring joy to their lives and talk with them in their context. Some of these may have families in town, but some may have no one to visit them or talk with them. God will use you to let them know they are loved and appreciated members of Severns Valley. This is a monthly volunteer spot, but it could be more if you are available. And, you can visit more than one person.
  • Helps - We have calls from some of our homebound and widowed members who need help fixing small items in their homes or help with small maintenance projects around their home.

Welcome joe@svbc.cc

  • Ushers - Ushers have the opportunity to display the heart of a servant by assisting our members and guests throughout the worship center.Taking attendance, receiving the offering and helping during the service are some of the ways ushers serve. There must be a helpful, flexible, positive, and friendly mindset. Volunteers serve every other month by being in place 30 minutes before the worship service.
  • Greeters - There is an old saying, “You only have one chance to make a first impression.”Our greeters are at the doors of the main entrances for the purpose of making a good impression. People who are very welcoming are needed to help us make sure our guests know that they really matter to us. Volunteers serve every other month from 8:30 am - 9:15 and 10:15 am - 11:00 am.
  • Information Kiosk - A new church can be very awkward and unfamiliar for first time guests. We ensure the volunteers at the Information Kiosk have the proper information needed to answer guests’ questions. Friendly, welcoming people who love assisting others is the important aspect of serving in this way. Volunteers serve every other month from 8:30 am - 10:15 and 10:15 am - 12:00 pm.
  • Worship Center Chair Set-up - Worship services and other ministry events that occur in the worship center rely on volunteers setting the chairs and other items in place. It is a vital area in which volunteers know their service has made these ministries possible. Volunteers serve less than one hour early Saturday mornings and less than 30 minutes on Sunday after worship. It is a flexible schedule as volunteers can serve weekly or monthly.
  • Golf Carts - The very first person a guest may meet is one of our golf cart drivers. Golf cart drivers are essential in helping people from all areas of the parking lot to the building. It is important to have drivers who can be depended on at their assigned time and are committed to serving in both good and bad weather. Volunteers serve one Sunday a month from 8:15 am – 12:15 pm.
